Update from the Superintendent of SD46
August 31st 2014
Message from Superintendent Patrick Bocking:
Saturday evening, mediator Vince Ready left talks between the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) and the British Columbia Public Schools Employers' Association (BCPSEA), indicating that the sides are too far apart to come to a resolution anytime soon. Given this information at this time, it is highly unlikely that schools will be in session on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 and perhaps longer. Schools will not be in session until the labour dispute is resolved. Please check our school and district website, Facebook and Twitter feeds regularly for updates on this important matter. Parents with questions about their children's education are welcome to contact their child's principal at the school telephone number. We continue to hope for a resolution in the near future.

Letter to the Parents from the Superintendent of SD46
August 20th 2014
Dear Parents/Guardians:
As of this date, negotiations are ongoing between the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation and the Ministry of Education. School startup this September remains uncertain as an agreement has yet to be reached.
I am hopeful that an agreement will be achieved before September and that we will have a normal startup. However, if an agreement is not reached, the startup for the school year will be delayed. School District No. 46 schools will be closed to students while teachers continue to be on strike as our staff would not be able to offer an effective and safe learning environment without our teachers in the schools. Please plan to make alternate arrangements for your child/children during this time.
I am very proud of the education our teachers provide in our pubic schools and deeply appreciate the hard work and support provided by all staff in the Sunshine Coast School District.
The school district website, Facebook and Twitter accounts will be updated as more information becomes available. If you have any questions regarding your child’s education, please speak to your child’s principal.
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Bocking, Superintendent
