Executive Report
• Sexual Health talk – No word yet on a date for Saleema Noon to come;
Kerry will contact her to find out availability.
• School Pinnies – some people have noticed that the pinnies are getting
worn and appear dirty.
o Kerry commented that they do get washed on a regular basis
o The school will purchase some new pinnies soon to replenish what we
have.
• The PAC discussed the possibility that we purchase a light board for
special events (i.e. movie nights, dances).
o New light boards cost thousands of dollars.
o It costs about $60 to rent a light board.
o We use light boards about 2 or 3 X per year.
o The committee decided that it was too expensive to purchase, and
that we should keep renting one for now when needed.
• It has been suggested that we have a PAC meeting in June this year since
the meetings have moved to the beginning of the month. Everyone is in
favor of doing this – Approved.
• The PAC discussed what to do this year for Staff appreciation. It was
decided that we would do a pot-luck lunch on Wednesday, May 20th at
11:45 am. A sign-up sheet will be placed by the office. The deadline for
signing up will be May 13th.
• The breakfast program is running low on muffins so it was decided to have
a “food drive” by having a contest to see which class brings in the most
muffins. The contest will run Feb 16 to 20 and the winning class will get a
pizza party. Muffins or loafs are fine.
• The SCRD is discussing the port-a-potty request at their meeting on
February 19th.
• The committee discussed ways to bring in donations for the outdoor play
area (logs, building supplies) to cut down expenses.
o One possibility is from the Sunshine Coast Community Forest
Legacy Fund.
o Another possibility is to ask GBS to donate supplies.
o Another good idea is to put an article in the Coast Reporter
outlining the project and requesting donations.
o Before proceeding we need to have the architect’s input on log
sizes needed.

Treasurer’s Report:
• We have $16,826.33 in the general account but some expenses need to
come out.

• We received the $500 SCRD grant that was applied for (from last year). It
will be used to purchase outdoor equipment (balls, etc.) for bins for each
classroom. The estimate for the equipment is somewhat higher than
$500. The PAC discussed and approved that an additional $200 can be
used from PAC funds for the equipment.

Everyone is in favor

Fundraising Report:
• We only made $209.65 profit from the last movie night. Last year we
made closer to $500 profit on each movie night. PAC decided to keep
running them anyway since they are an enjoyable family outing. The next
movie night will be March 6th.
• The profit made on other recent fundraising activities is as follows:
o Plate decorating $109.74
o Cookie Dough $493.50
o Parent Donations $700.00
o Progressive fundraising cards $165.00
• Globe for Library – Melinda made a motion to purchase a large inflatable
globe ball for the library. The cost would be under $100.00 so significantly
less than purchasing a regular globe.
Moved by Melinda March
Seconded by Susan Goddard
All in favor
• Popcorn Fridays – the PAC discussed the difficulty we are having finding
volunteers to run the popcorn program. It was proposed that grade 7’s be
recruited to help run it by volunteering once a month. It was decided that
we have enough coverage for this year but may revisit this idea in the
future.
• The breakfast program still needs more volunteers to help run it. Please
consider getting involved if you have the time.
• The Sock Hop was very successful, the kids had a lot of fun. We will hold
another one Feb 27th in the gym.
• Burger and Beer night will be Saturday March 28th at Grandma’s Pub.
• It was proposed that we run a “Summer Bulb Purchase” fundraising
program. Everyone liked the idea.

Other business:
• The District Parent Advisory Committee (DPAC) chair, Alison Fawcus,
spoke to the committee about the DPAC and what they do.
o Interested parents can come to any meeting (don’t have to come to
all meetings). Meetings are held the 4th Thursday of the month at
Chatelech school.
o The speaker at the February meeting is Karen Foley who will be
presenting on “Providing Support, Training and Consultation for
Children and Youth Living with Complex Brain Difference”
o The website for the DPAC is www.sd46dpac@gmail.com
• Pamela Ruth, school trustee, introduced herself and told the PAC a little
about herself. She is the liaison between the school board and the
Parents.

• Some parents have been inquiring about why the grade 4/5’s don’t have
sports teams. Kerry pointed out some reasons why schools aren’t as
involved in sports activities as before:
o Concern about brain injuries / concussions in younger children.
o The teachers were not paid for running sports activities; it was done
on a volunteer basis.
o The teachers were criticized as not being skilled enough to properly
teach children sports.
o Youth sports have moved towards professional coaches.
o Children are more involved in community sports teams now.
o Running school sports is more costly than it used to be (insurance,
equipment, referees).

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm
